I would say to let it run an hour more as a system check i.e.. flow, fit, leveling, vibration etc. Once seeded the bacteria will establish based on their food source ...

As the water gets saltier, however, the bacteria are different. If you are setting up a tank that will ultimately be a brackish water tank I would either cycle it as a brackish water tank, or else make the change from fresh to brackish slowly so the bacteria can adapt. A marine tank has quite different bacteria, and should be cycled as a marine ...
2. siphon 1/2 of the tank water into jugs from the center of the tank so as not to disturb the substrate or any of the detritus that may be on it. 3. remove plants and put them in a separate container (more in a bit) 4. remove hardscape (rocks and wood) 5. remove all fish and put into individual containers by type.

Like 50% or more of the volume of the tank is filled with plants. This is of course how he he is getting away with few or no water changes. The sand tank is the exception because the fish in there would eat plants I believe. We do water changes of course to remove waste material that would build up. This includes nitrate.

Here are the wives-tails I've know of and thus don't use it. 1. Don't use carbon in a planted tank. 2. The effectiveness last only about a month. 3. Use carbon as a chemical filter to remove medications added due to disease. Thanks. After 50 years I do a lot of things right, but still get things wrong.

I've heard of people using (full dosage) API General Cure (Metro + Prazi) and other's using just straight Praziquantel or Metronidazole solely, for treating Scutariella japonica in their shrimp tanks and had no issues with their shrimps. Since you are using an antibiotic (Metronidazole ...
Oh and this is an old tank that has been recently; in the past few months, converted into a planted tank. It is 29 gallons with 96 watts of T5 HO lighting, pressurized CO2, HOB filter, and hydor koralia powerhead. It is a community tank with neons, guppies (great variety), tetras, and 2 pictus cats.
pH from 6 to 6.5 is usually a bit too soft for hard water plants. GH and KH usually 3-5 degrees. pH from 6.5-7.5 is mid-range, and GH and KH from 5 to 9 is probably fine for these plants. pH 7.5-8 might be too hard for the specialize soft water plants. GH and KH usually 9-20 degrees. pH over 8 is usually very hard water.
5. In general, get the tank that has the look you like but is also maintainable when it comes to cleaning the substrate. 6. When your initial ideas come together, get some low-tech plants such as Java Ferns, Anuibias, among others, get a Test kit that can measure pH, Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite.

Diana. Filter media can be broken down into 3 groups. Which is best for your system depends on what your system needs. Mechanical filtration is the removal of particles. Usually this is done with porous media like sponges. The coarsest media is first to contact the dirty water, then medium, then finer, ending with floss.
New 20g Planted Tank (Epiphytes only) - 11/17/20 - FTS and Videos. Hi everyone! Well I got inspired to change some things up here at home - and I am actually going to redo my small 8 gallon with the leftovers from this 20g build but in this thread I will update the bigger tank, my new 20g tank. I'll update my other journal with the nano redo.

Absolutely. Standard aquarium salt used in small doses replaces minerals that are lost to the tank water being constantly filtered. A teaspoon or so added to every five gallons of new, treated tap water during the weekly water change will keep your aquatic plants healthy. B.
