Horizontal Plate Filter

The standard Horizontal Plate Filter is designed for batch wise filtration without leaving a heel. This is accomplished with a specially-designed scavenger plate that filters the heel remaining in the tank at the end of a batch. A melting scheme is given in Fig. 1 with refinement of melt with lanthanum and subsequent filtration. It is seen that after addition of lanthanum the sulfur content in alloy is reduced by 70–80%, and after alloy filtration it is reduced even more by 10–20%, so that the overall degree of desulfurization is about 90%.
